Chilly Change Is In The Air

Hello boys & girls!  October is here and I already feel its chill in the air.  This Saturday, we'll be covering a genre from an earlier session...nonfiction!  So much has changed for many of you as you began a new year of school, new grade, new teacher, etc.  That means your autobiographies have changed too!

On a sad note, I have to inform you and your parents that this Saturday will be our last session until 2012.  With the holiday season approaching, I think it's best that we take a little break and reconvene in the New Year.

If you like this blog, become a fan today by registering below and leave me a comment.  I will be updating you on our next session date in 2012 here as well.  Until next time, keep reading and/or writing, writing, writing away!  Oh yeah, don't forget the YAP motto..."Anything is possible, as long as you believe!"

Reading and Writing

Hello boys & girls!  I've got a question for ya.  How many of you like to read and write?  How many of you like to write and read?  If you're wondering why I'm asking the same question, it's because I'm not.  See, some people like to read more than they like to write.  Others like to write more than they like to read.  So, which question best describes you?  Tell me your answer at our next session in October.  I can't wait to hear!

The Blazing Summer of 2011

Hello boys and girls!  I hope you all are surviving this horrific heat.  Wow, has it been a hot summer!!!  What to do with all of this warmth?  Write a super hot story about it, of course!!!  If you don't have a journal, ask your parents to pick one up.  They don't cost much and you can capture all your summer memories that go by SO fast.  In December, you can open up your journal and reminisce about those hot summer days that felt like they'd never end!

Speaking of heat, the YAP is on a brief vacation this week from the Nzinga Creative Arts Center for some routine maintenance, but we'll be back soon.  If you would like the YAP to visit your organization, call or email us for program rates and availability today!

Until next time, keep reading and writing, writing, writing away!  Oh yeah, don't forget the YAP motto..."Anything is possible, as long as you believe!"

Is ANYONE there? I think I hear FOOTSTEPS...

Hello girls and boys!  Don't be alarmed, there's really no one there.  Or is there?  Maybe there is...  Can you guess which genre this is?  MYSTERY!!!  That's what we're tackling this week at the Nzinga Creative Arts Center.  So far, the stories I've read have the little hairs on my arms sticking straight up! Mystery writing is SO much fun!

Young Authors Are Everywhere!

Hello girls and boys!  I apologize for the one day delay.  I was out of town this past weekend visiting family in my home state of New Jersey.  While I was there, I found out just how many aspiring young authors there are all over this country.  Many of them are my younger cousins who LOVE to read and write, just like all of you!  Make sure your parents don't forget about our next YAP session on July 9th.  Did someone say Haiku? Yep!  Know what literary genre that is? If not, you'll find out on July 9th.

This marks week three of the YAP at the Nzinga Creative Arts Center.   If you would like the Young Authors Program to visit your organization, call or email us for program rates and availability today!

Hello boys and girls!  May is here and just like those lovely flowers I know you'll be buying for Mom, it is in FULL bloom!  We had a grrrrrreat session this past Saturday and lemme tell ya, you all LOVE science fiction.  Which is why choosing the genre for our next session was hard.  I think we'll go with fiction though, which brings us back to the basics of creative writing.  Our new dates for the next six months are listed below.

Don't forget to treat Mom REALLY special this week.  Since I am one, I know yours will thank me for adding this little reminder!  Oh yeah, that goes for your teachers too, since it is Teacher Appreciation week.

Until next time, keep reading and writing, writing, writing away!  Oh, yeah, yeah, don't forget the YAP motto..."Anything is possible, as long as you believe!"

Happy (Early) Easter!

Hello girls and boys!  If you're below the Mason Dixon, Happy Spring Break!  To those of you "up top,"  don't worry...one more week to go!

Our attendance this past Saturday, was, well, less than stellar, but we're still moving forward :)  Maybe the attendance or lack there of was a sign that nonfiction isn't one of your favorite genres, and that's cool if it's not.  Only thing I'd say about that is to give every genre a try, at least once.  You just never know what you don't like until you DO give it a try.  That goes for vegetables too!

Now for a few last minute reminders.  The April 23 session is cancelled since so many of you will be out of town.  April 30 is our last session until further notice, so make sure you check back in for new dates.  And don't forget our NEW location listed below!

Until next time, keep reading and writing, writing, writing away!  Oh yeah, don't forget the YAP motto..."Anything is possible, as long as you believe!"

NEW YAP LOCATION!!!

Hello boys and girls! I hope you are all in school enjoying this super sunny Monday morning! We had a blast this past Saturday learning about Haiku, Couplet, Cinquain, and Free Verse poetry.  You all are some FABULOUS young poets!  As for the remaining three sessions, I have some updates that you'll need to report to your parents.

We are cancelling the session on April 23 since so many of you will be out of town.  Therefore, April 16 and 30 will be the last two sessions.  We also have a new location, so please make sure your parents don't take you to Chick-fil-A in the Rivergate Shopping Center.  While we enjoyed our two sessions there, we are excited about finishing up the last two sessions at Lakeview Church!  It's about a half-mile up the road off of South Tryon on Erwin Rd., across the street from Lake Wylie School.  The times are still the same, so we'll be waiting for you next Saturday afternoon.

Until next time, keep reading and writing, writing, writing away!  Oh yeah, don't forget the YAP motto..."Anything is possible, as long as you believe!"

Happy National Poetry Month!

Hello girls and boys!  Happy Saturday to you all!  Just a quick note about today's session. Today's genre is poetry and who doesn't love sentences that rhyme?  We initially planned for a NewsChannel 36 cameraman to come out and videotape some footage of us in action, but we're still working out the logistics.  Once we have all of the details, I'll let you know.  So get your smile ready for the camera!

Until next time, keep reading and writing, writing, writing away!!! Oh yeah, don't forget the YAP motto..."Anything is possible, as long as you believe!"
